‘Focsle Rose’ is a Sealion 42 displacement motor cruiser of a round bilge design with a directional keel, based on a steel hull with teak superstructure. Although she is sea boat and well-travelled around the Mediterranean, her dimensions enable her to navigate the French canals, which she has done more than once. The Sealion 42 was produced by Meakes of Marlow which was founded in 1886 as Meakes & Redknap, and ending up as just J.G.Meakes Ltd.

Although she is sea boat and well-travelled around the Mediterranean, her dimensions enable her to navigate the French canals, which she has done more than once. 
The Sealion 42 was produced by Meakes of Marlow which was founded in 1886 as Meakes & Redknap, and ending up as just J.G.Meakes Ltd. The company lasted almost 100 years before selling up for redevelopment of the site. In 1964 the total price of £15,000 including luxury fittings, you certainly wouldn't get much boat for that amount these days! 

Notes from vendor: Prior to our purchase in 2012, new engines fitted in 2007. ‘Focsle Rose' had a full refit (invoices are available) over 2013 to 2015 comprising:

  • Below and above waterline fully shot blasted, and welded including new galvanised keel. 12 layers of epoxy below waterline and 5 on the hull sides. 
  • New gunwale fitted
  • Teak deck fitted on marine ply.
  • New shafts and couplings / new P brackets and cutlass bearings
  • New bow sprite / Stanchions / Davits
  • Vetus Bow thruster 160kgf / 24volt
  • Victron inverter 3000w / 50 amp charge with Digital Multi Control panel
  • New fuel tank and black tank

  • New 200 Litre calorifier / heated from both engines and shore power.
